Wachsportionen
Mittig das relativ junge, saubere "Entdecklungswachs".
Wachs ist ein, bei Temperaturen zwischen 30-40°C geschmeidig verformbares Material, das fettlösliche Substanzen aufnehmen kann. Ursprünglich schneeweiß, wird es im Alter durch Pollen- und Propolisfarbstoffe, Sekrete und Kokonreste dunkel. Bei Lagerung bildet reines Bienenwachs einen weißlichen reifartigen Überzug ("Wachsblüte", weiße Oxidationsschicht) der abgewischt werden kann. Der Schmelzpunkt liegt knapp über 60°C. Einen Wachsblock kann man in kleinere Stücke zerteilt durch Gefrieren & Zerschlagen.
• die hellen Wachsblöcke sind aus Deckeln der Honigwaben ("Deckelungswachs"). Das junge, nur wenige Monate alte Wachs ist geeignet für Kosmetik und Lebensmittelkontakt.
• die dunkleren, älteren, gold-gelben Wachsstücke eigenen sich zum Imprägnieren, für Kerzen etc. Sie enthalten zu einem kleinen Anteil zukauftes, externes Wachs (aus "Mittelwänden").
DIY-Rohstoff (Do-It-Yourself): In Imkereien fallen im Zuge der "Wabenerneuerung" etwa 1Kg Wachs pro Kasten an. Ein kleiner Teil wird den Bienen wieder als Bauhilfe zugeführt, den andere können wir verwenden, z.B. für: Bienenwachstücher als perfekte wiederverwendbare Alternative zu Frischhaltefolie und Plastiktüten. Kurz: auf Backpapier > Baumwoll- oder Leintuch ausbreiten > Wachs rüberraspeln > mit Backpapier abdecken > mit einem Bügeleisen das Wachs in das Tuch einschmelzen.
Kleidung imprägnieren mit warmem Bienenwachsklotz über Textil reiben und per Fön oder einem alten Bügeleisen oder 20min bei 60-70°C in den Backofen ins Gewebe einziehen lassen.
